| Vorwaerts immer - rueckwaerts nimmer! | | An Illustrated Guide to the History and Fate of the German Assault Artillery in WW II | | | Author: | | Thomas Anderson | | Publication place: | | Andelfingen | | Publication year: | | 2011 | | Publisher: | | History Facts | | ISBN: | | 978-3-9522968-9-9 | | Language: | | English | | | | Reading | | | | Index |
| | | | | | This first of three volumes on the German Assault Artillery in World War II covers the first years of establishing and deploying this new weapon up to the preaparation of opearation "Barabarossa", the invasion in Russia: The Sturmartillerie was extablished before outbreak of WW II as an integrative support arm of the infantry, which was far way from thorough mobility. Sturmgeschuetze - assault guns - turretless tanks armed with a 7,5 cm gun - should push forward the attack breaking any enemy resistance, destroying infantry guns, MG nests and bunkers. In the further course of the war the young service branch would have to stand the impetus of ever growing numbers of enemy tanks.
The purpose of this first volume is to introduce this small, but remarkable service arm to the reader. Development and combat of of the first units in battery - scale and the later Sturmgeschütz battalions resp. brigades will be explained by photos, diagrams and colored artwork. The author turned his attention to the identification of Sturmartillerie units, markings and characteristics will be clarified wherever possible. During his research the author relied only on sources found in German archives. Subjective recollections of veterans have been used to illustrate the nature of this service arm.
This study includes 250 historical photographs, most published for the first time, 40 color illustrations (Drawings), 1 map and some tables of organisation. Format: 20*28 cm, 209 pages, Hardcover

| | | | | | The author describes his experiences as a Luftwaffe Anti-Aircraft Assistant 1944-1945: “It was simply a question of us fifteen to sixteen-year olds manning the anti-aircraft guns on the ground defending ourselves against the airmen in the bombers and fighters 20 000 feet above our heads.” Letters, reports, documents and above all, the author’s complete diary and photographs that do so much to authenticate this time capsule. He describes how it was in those days, the final two years of World War II – both on the ground and in the air, manning the guns and systems of the 7th German Anti-Aircraft Brigade, or on operations with the bombers of the 15th US Air Fleet - including insight into the lives of the schoolboy troopers “down here” and the bomber crews “up there”. | | | | | | | | | |

| | | | | | The struggle at the Narva bridgehead represents the struggle of World War II on the eastern front itself. The German, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Estonian, and even Russian volunteers had signed up to fight against what they saw to be the Communist threat looming to the east. As other German units in 1944 failed to hold ground in Russia, Heeresgruppe Nord held one of the last occupied positions near Russia; the Estonian city of Narva. This toehold was what these volunteers would fight so dearly for in winter conditions, enormously outnumbered by their enemies.
On the other side lay the Soviet troops with revenge on their minds, and rightly so. After enduring months of starvation at Leningrad and Oranienbaum the soldiers would finally get their chance to fight the enemy that had invaded their home. The city itself was fought over for months with gruesome hand-to-hand fighting often erupting, leading to thousands of casualties.
This publication takes a somewhat unique approach in portraying the battles of 1944 by incorporating large amounts of photographic evidence. The photographs and their captions offer great insight into the life of the normal soldier wanting nothing more than to survive another day. In some cases the photos from 1944 are even contrasted with the same location as seen today. The photographic evidence is effectively mixed with a precise historical text and geographic information so the reader may fully understand the context of the battle.
This study includes 120 historical photographs, most published for the first time, 4 maps and some tables. Extensive archival research was combined with eyewitness accounts to fully inform the reader of these events in 1944. Format: 20*28 cm, 112 pages, Hardcover

By linking this accumulated data with the historical situation of those times, we hope to have facilitated a more objective assessment of the “Volksjäger” project.
For the purposes of this book, around 200 file documents were selected from a multitude of material on the Heinkel He 162 and reproduced in their original state. Complementing them are some 140 photographs, some of them unpublished hitherto, 50 scale drawings, 30 colour plates and innumerable citations from contemporary documents, teleprints, orders, lectures, reviews and intelligence reports.
Rounding off the publication is a comprehensive Annex giving details of propulsion units, camouflage schemes, armament, the cockpit, plus the various versions of the Heinkel He 162.
